Electricity network and electricity trade - what is the difference?

The electricity industry can be complex, here we go through the difference between electricity networks and electricity trade.

Updated over a week ago

The electricity grid is the wires that go to your home, while the electricity trade is the electricity that you consume and buy from your chosen electricity trading company.

You cannot choose which electricity company you want yourself, but are bound to the electricity company that owns the network where you live. However, you can freely choose which electricity trading company you buy your electricity from. The electricity trading company charges for the electricity you consume and use in your home when, for example, you make your coffee, watch TV or charge your mobile phone. This means that you have two different agreements. An electricity network agreement with the electricity network company that owns the network where you live and an electricity trading agreement with the company you choose to buy your electricity from.
